go argos go. please.

The Toronto Argos were bad this year. They were awful. They were terrible.

Last year we stayed to the end not just because we’re fans but because they always seemed to find a way to win.

This year, we stayed not just because we’re fans and we enjoy the the bond misery created with the other season ticketholders in our section but because the Argos always seemed to find a way to lose in the end.

They saved their best and most dramatic loss for the final game of the season.

They scored three touchdowns on their first three possessions. By the end of the third quarter they were winning 31-17.

And in the end they lost 45-38 on a last second touchdown by Saskatchewan’s Neal Hughes.

Today, the head coach, Don Matthews, the Argos’ second coach this year, retired, after the Argos failed to win a single game following Matthews’ return. Matthews is the winningest coach in CFL history. He’s a lock on the hall of fame. He led the Argos to Grey Cups. And this bunch couldn’t win even one lousy game for him.

Chris Zelkovich in the Star outlines just how bad things were for the Argos this year.

But to get a real taste, check out this quote from Matthews:

“My inability to affect the team to get a win in my mind….”

They were so bad that Don Matthews’ couldn’t even day dream these guys to victory.

Matthews’ is old and probably wasn’t the right choice for a long-term coach but he was far from the reason why this team was so bad.

They ought to blow the team right up. To its very core. Maybe Arland Bruce III gets to come back for a tryout next year but the rest of them - good-bye. Raze the boat. It’s the only way to rebuild the juggernaut that was the good ship Argonaut.
